Map of Mauritius

Map of Mauritius

Mauritius is located in the Indian Ocean, to the east of Africa and Madagascar. It has a population of 1.2 million people of African, Indian, Chinese and European origin. Hindu temples mix with mosques and Christian churches. The capital is Port Louis which features colonial architecture and a fascinating market specialising in fresh spices, fruit and vegetables. The island is as varied in its geography as it is in its cultures. Mauritius is volcanic in origin and the rich and productive soil is the result. The coast is surrounded by coral reefs making for protected sandy beaches and marvellous blue waters. Air Mauritius is the national carrier with over 30 flights a week to European destinations, particularly via Paris. British Airways offer several direct flights from the UK each week.
