5 Ways to Create Good Daily Habits

By Paisley Hansen

February 21 2021 - Creating some good habits to incorporate into your day can seem daunting but there are ways to make it less intimidating. Try out a few of these suggestions to build better daily rituals to promote a healthy, more fulfilling and satisfying lifestyle.

Start Small

Whenever most people start to seriously think about self improvement, everything that they want to change or modify comes to mind. But jumping into too much too fast can set you up for failure. If you want to give yourself the best chance to succeed, then start out small.

Take a closer look at your overall goal. Do you want to get into better shape or lose some weight? Break up that achievement into smaller and more manageable parts. If you tell yourself that you're going to exercise each day, cut out all unhealthy foods and start a mindfulness practice that sounds great in theory but the reality? Just a little bit overwhelming. The stress of trying to stay on track and not backslide can do more harm than good.

Pick one thing to focus on first. If you want to be healthier, think about adding some supplements to your diet to ensure you are getting complete nutrition and have the strength and energy to complete the tasks you are setting. Add New Habits One At a Time

Similarly to starting out small is not taking on too much too fast. If your aims are to lose weight, start meditating, keep closer track of your spending and save money for a big purchase, then pick one thing to master before adding in the next. It takes time to create a habit. You need to get used to a new task or routine. Work on one until it becomes second nature and then add in a second.

You may be anxious to get moving on all the items on your checklist, but you'll achieve better results if you take it slow and steady.

Be Accountable

One of the biggest reasons that a lot of people fail in their efforts to create a new habit, is that they don't hold themselves accountable. Reach out to your spouse, sibling or a friend and talk about what you are working toward. Get them on board to offer encouragement and help you stay committed. Better yet, involve them in your plans and do the same to help them reach a goal of their own! This way you can check in with each other often and keep your motivation going strong. It may even help you to build a closer relationship with this person.

Set Reminders

Even the most organized and focused people need help to stay on the right path sometimes. If you find that you get distracted or overwhelmed with the tasks of the day, set a reminder for yourself. This could be as simple as setting an alarm on your phone each morning to remind you to take that vitamin. Or leave your yoga mat out where you will see it when you come home so you remember to practice that evening.

Reward Yourself

Any changes that you make in your life, large or small, take substantial effort and willpower. When you succeed in creating that habit and it becomes a part of your day, reward yourself!

If you have stuck with a daily exercise practice for a month, buy that new outfit you had your eye on. Did you devote 15 minutes each day for the past 30 days to journaling? Then purchase the fancy new pen and pretty journal. This will serve as further motivation to continue on and a reminder that you are capable and successful.

New habits don't have to be something you dream of but never accomplish. Following even a few of these tips will give you a better chance to make true and meaningful improvements in your life.
